Introduction

Total Countries In The World: When seen from the space, 71 percent of the earth is covered with water. Only 29 percent is the land. But in this minor amount of area also, man has created a huge civilization.

Number of countries in the world

Talking of the total countries in the world, they are 195. Though two of them, namely the Holy See and the State of Palestine, are the non-member observer states. The rest of the total countries in the world are the actual member states of the global body called the UN. 

Countries besides the 195 countries

  • Taiwan is a country that has the People’s Republic of China representing it. This is as per the United Nations. 
  • Then there are certain ‘dependencies’ as well as Areas of Special Sovereignty. 
  • Next are The Cook Islands and Niue. These are not member states neither the non-member observer states. 
  • Then there are certainly other countries as well. The reason they do not count among the total countries in the world is they are not considered as self-governing by the UN.
